The Department of Public Works under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works has undertaken an exceptional program on National Mourning Day. Initiatives have been taken to distribute food items among a large number of poor and destitute people across the country with one day's salary of the officers of all levels of the organization.

The initiative was taken by the Department of Public Works under the initiative and supervision of Chief Engineer Mohammad Shamim Akhtar.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members and some close relatives were brutally martyred on 15 August 1975 at the hands of a group of misguided officers. The day is being observed as National Mourning Day tomorrow (Sunday).

On this occasion, as part of the government program, Milad mahfil has been organized in all the units of public works all over the country. Special prayers will be offered at this time for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs of August 15, for the progress and prosperity of the country and for protection from the Corona epidemic.

In addition, food items will be distributed among the poor and destitute across the country. Apart from 13 places in Dhaka and 6 places in Chittagong, high quality food items will be distributed in 60 public works departments in each district. Food items include rice, pulses, oil, onions, potatoes, salt, soap, masks etc.
